Overview

We get stomach aches several times. However, it’s not the only symptom that we can rely on as an indicator of stomach cancer. Gastrointestinal cancer symptoms include symptoms related to esophageal carcinoma, stomach carcinoma, hepatocellular or liver carcinoma, and pancreatic cancer. Here we've discussed this with our experts at Healthtrip. Keep reading to get an idea of the same.

Esophageal cancer:

The esophagus is the tube that connects the mouth, throat, and stomach ("food pipe"). When a person swallows, the muscular wall of the esophagus contracts, assisting in the movement of food down to the stomach.

-Early-stage very tiny tumors do not usually produce symptoms. Patients frequently have trouble swallowing as the tumor becomes larger and the esophagus narrows.

- As the tumor grows, the esophagus narrows, making it difficult to swallow even liquids. -Indigestion, heartburn, vomiting, and choking can all be indications of esophageal cancer.

- Patients may also have coughing and hoarseness of voice. Weight loss that is not voluntary is also prevalent.

Gastric cancer:

In gastric or stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer, cancer cells proliferate uncontrollably in the stomach. Any area of your stomach can develop cancer.

Symptoms of early-stage stomach cancer (gastric cancer) are uncommon. When stomach cancer manifests itself, the following symptoms may occur:

-Appetite problems

-Loss of weight (without trying)

-Pain in the abdomen (belly).

-Uncertain abdominal pain, generally above the navel

-Feeling satisfied with only a modest dinner,

-Indigestion or heartburn

-Nausea

-Vomiting, whether with or without blood

-Swelling or fluid accumulation in the abdomen

-Blood in the feces

-Feeling fatigued or weak as a result of a deficiency of red blood cells (anemia)

-If cancer progresses to the liver, it causes yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice).

The majority of these symptoms are caused by factors other than stomach cancer, such as a viral infection or an ulcer.

Hepatocellular cancer:

Hepatocellular carcinoma is a type of cancer that develops in the liver. Hepatoma is another term for primary liver cancer. HCC is the world's fifth most frequent cancer.

-Individuals infected with hepatitis B and/or hepatitis C viruses are at a higher risk of developing HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma).

-Alcohol-related liver illness is another risk factor for HCC development.

-Certain substances have been linked to liver cancer, including aflatoxin B1, vinyl chloride, and thorotrast.

- Aflatoxin is produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus and can be found in foods like peanuts, rice, soybeans, corn, and wheat.

-Hemochromatosis, a disorder characterized by improper iron metabolism, is closely linked to liver cancer.

Pancreatic cancer:

The pancreas produces pancreatic secretions, which aid in digestion in the small intestines, as well as hormones such as insulin. It is placed in the back of the abdomen, behind the stomach.

-Jaundice: If the tumor obstructs the bile ducts (the main bile duct runs via the pancreas), the patient may develop jaundice, a condition in which the skin and eyes get yellow and the urine turns dark.

-Abdominal pain: As cancer progresses, the patient may experience abdominal pain that radiates to the back. Pain may worsen after eating or lying down.

-Nausea

-Appetite suppression

-Loss of weight

Apart from the above-mentioned symptoms, if you notice any other unusual symptom in your body, take note of it. And if your symptoms persist, you shouldn’t hesitate to call your doctor right away.
